Book in for 30 minutes of free advice and have a look around the Centre.  We can answer any questions from careers advice to give unbiased information about eco building or sustainable business techniques, products and services.  Or bring in your quotations for renewable energy installations and we will give you our honest opinion on whether they are value for money and if the company has a good reputation.

Events & training seminars Bricks and Bread are organising or hosting this month

The centre is being hired by the Core Assets Group, which provides a range of interventions to support children and families across the UK.  They are holding an Innovations and Creativity Day for their South East staff at Bricks and Bread in Aldershot.  Core Assets chose Bricks and Bread Sustainable Living Centre as a venue for their event because of our commitment to providing innovative solutions to the needs of local families and communities

organised by First Partnership a local company we work with that places young people on work experience.  Hollywater School caters for pupils with complex learning difficulties. There will be 7 students attending our work experience programme, 5 are abled students and 2 are in wheelchairs, one of the students came to us as part of the group experience we ran for the school last year. They will be accompanied by 4 teachers who will also be taking part in the work experience which will involve sorting our stock of reused waste materials and creative activities.

Sustainable Procurement Training at Bricks and Bread Sustainable Living Centre – 22nd June – Aspire Defence have hired our experts and venue to hold a training session for their staff and suppliers about sustainable procurement. Bricks and Bread experts are jointly working on this event with Bioregional

Waste Reuse workshop run jointly by Local United/Bioregional/Bricks and Bread – 10 – 4pm, 13th July
Bricks and Bread, AldershotStarting Up a Community Reuse and Resource Centre – Making Ourselves Unstoppable: Overcoming the Challenges

This one-day interactive workshop is for community activists and entrepreneurs starting-up a Community Reuse and Resource Centre. The day is designed to give you expert practical advice and the chance to work through the issues you face with people who’ve done it before. The morning will start with a tour of a working example – the Bricks and Bread Sustainable Living Centre http://www.bricksandbread.com  This will be followed by a workshop on the challenges in reuse, repair, remanufacture and retraining with Kelvin Hughes who set up the Newbury Community Resource Centre. In the afternoon there will be question and answer sessions on the issues you face such as making reuse pay its way, choosing the right business structure, getting the logistics right and partnering with local authorities. We’ll be running “surgery” sessions with advisors on hand to answer your individual questions with tailored advice. So you’ll leave with answers to the issues you face in setting up your social enterprise and a clear idea of next steps. You’ll also able to build your own support network , link into the community resource networks FRN & LCRN and gain an understanding of the social franchise opportunities with Bricks and Bread. Trudy Thompson the Founder of Bricks and Bread Sustainable Living Centre will be holding her popular independent advice clinic at Oak Tree House, come for a tour of the building and get half an hour of free advice from Trudy.

She can answer any questions from careers advice to unbiased information about eco building or sustainable business.

Alternatively, you can bring in your quotations for renewable energy installations and Trudy will give you her honest opinion on whether they are value for money or a company with a good reputation.

Oak Tree House is one of the only fully functional low carbon retrofit show homes in the South of England and has been transformed from an ordinary 3 bedroom house to a showcase property for low carbon living with a wide range of energy efficiency measures and renewable technology.

Participants are sure to enjoy an action packed one day course at this inspirational venue with all courses being be hosted by leading industry experts. Plus! they will have the opportunity to look around the property to discover other ways which they can reduce their carbon consumption and fuel bills.

The Reality of Eco Building by Trudy Thompson – July 27th

This is both a training seminar & networking opportunity for people who want to hear from a leading eco building expert with hands-on experience of both new build and retrofit projects, to share her knowledge and benefit from her network of contacts.

Whether you are an architect, planner, contractor, supplier, self builder or simply someone who is interested in finding out more about eco building. You will find this event very informative and inspiring, it will give you an overview of the whole process and typical issues/opportunities involved in building or retrofitting property sustainably.

You will also have the opportunity to connect with Trudy Thompson and her network of experts in eco building.

This seminar shares the lessons Trudy has learnt, her practical experiences and hands on knowledge and highlights the major aspects of managing eco building projects.

Trudy has managed 11 new eco builds and 22 retrofitting projects of existing properties, the seminar will cover the issues she has faced, mostly due to the general construction industry and suppliers lacking the practical knowledge and overall understanding about the process, regulations and systems for eco building. Trudy is the founder of Bricks and Bread Sustainable Living Centre, she created the social enterprise to make it easier for people to live, work and build sustainably.

As this seminar is being run at Oak Tree House which is a retrofitted building you will have the chance to look around the building to see installed and working solar system, rainwater harvesting and energy saving measures.

Eco Entrepreneurs & Social Enterprise Business Support Event – 10th August

£25 half day session = Session A – 10am until 1pm or Session B – 2pm until 5pm

Whether you are considering running a social enterprise or have invented an eco product or simply want to run your own sustainable business in eco building, waste reuse, recycling, water saving or energy advice, this event will give you the most useful things you will need; from valuable business contacts, to business operation know-how, marketing support and sales opportunities.
