Bricks and Bread Sustainable Living Centre
Our
buying and selling policy
Because we all need to stop being reliant on fossil fuels and reduce carbon
emissions
To
create a sustainable supply chain and take responsibility for the products
we offer, we do not buy or sell products without first considering these
12 questions, they are the guiding principles behind making our business
sustainable.
Whilst we accept that not every product or business can meet this criteria
now, we know they can do it in the future. By working with us others can
find out how to make the changes and address environmental issues in their
business.
1) Does the product harm the environment?
2) Contain any harmful or synthetic chemicals?
3) Is it being transported the minimum distance?
4) Can it be re-used or recycled?
5) Made from natural or recycled materials?
6) Can it reduce carbon emissions?
7) Sourced from our local area?
8) Does the company have a zero or low carbon emissions policy?
9) Ethically produced or a fair trade product?
10) Does it help people to learn about being self sufficient?
11) Good value for money and good quality?
12) Proven to work efficiently for a reasonable length of time?
We
want to recycle everything at the centre, which means that we don’t
buy anything in packaging that can’t be reused, recycled, or taken
back by the manufacturer. We don't want to use chemicals if there are
natural alternatives.
We
try to achieve all 12 in our activities, being ethical in these principles
does require us to make a great deal of effort, take a huge amount of
time and have to pay close attention to the small print.
